Assault victim dies
George Flowers, 67, of Monticello, formerly of McGehee, has been reported dead by the Drew County Sheriff’s Department.
Flowers was the victim of a July 18, assault from 38-year-old Jeremy Huskey.
Huskey allegedly beat Flowers at approximately 11:45 p.m. on that Monday. The DCSD responded to a call from Flowers’ residence on Midway Route. Flowers told the officers he recognized Huskey, even though his face was partially covered with a mask. Neighbors of Flowers reported seeing a truck similar to Huskey’s in Flowers’ driveway that evening.
Flowers denied to receive medical attention that night. Two days later, Flowers was found unconscious in his residence by neighbors. He was transported to Little Rock by ambulance but it is reported he never regained consciousness. Flowers was taken off life support last Wednesday and died on Sunday. Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober said an autopsy will be performed by the state Crime Lab and the results will be sent to Drew County. The autopsy will better determine the cause of death.
Huskey was arrested on July 24 by DCSD with a second degree assault charge. He bonded out of jail the following day on a $10,000 commercial bond.
According to Gober, it is likely Huskey’s charges will be upgraded as a result of Flowers’ death, depending on the autopsy findings. There was no immediate information on that happening from Tenth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Deen’s office.
