Edna Lavearn Ballard
Edna Lavearn Ballard, 82, of Dermott passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Monticello. Edna was born in Rison, a daughter of the late Ted Clarence and Alma Josephine Cranford Laws.
She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a major in business education and a minor in art. She taught school at Parkdale Schools and was also the principal there. Edna worked at the Adult Education Program in Eudora for many years.
She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Dermott, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was one of the three founding members of the Master Gardener Program in Southeast Arkansas.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Roger Mack Stringfellow and Billy Nat Ballard; two sons, Dennis Ted Stringfellow and Carroll Bruce Stringfellow; two brothers, Tommy Laws and Edward Laws; three sisters, Dean Henderson, Jean Hutchinson and Jeanette Browning; and a step-grandson, Bryce Stringfellow.
Survivors include three sons, Wade (Trudy) Stringfellow of Monticello, Mitchell (Tina) Stringfellow of Hampton and Phillip (Sherry) Stringfellow of Dermott; a daughter, Mitzi (William) Cantwell of White Hall; three stepchildren, Ronnie Stringfellow, Rickey (Linda) Stringfellow and Sherry McElyea, all of Hampton; a sister, Bernice Ortega of Lone Star, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Melinda Stringfellow of Hampton and Linda Stringfellow of Monticello; 14 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Temple Baptist Church in Dermott. Funeral services were after visitation Tuesday with Rev. Bobby Franklin officiating. Graveside services were Tuesday at Pickett Cemetery in Hampton.
