Drew High School all-school reunion brings alumni back
For more years than anybody cares to recall, alumni of the now-defunct Drew High School will gather to have an all-class reunion Thursday through Sunday in Monticello. Some 250 to 300 graduates and friends of what was the third high school in the area will gather for fun, fellowship and reminiscing about good times.
The festivities for the every third-year reunion will get started with early-bird registration from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Ethel Hawkins Christian Family Center at Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church, 527 East McCloy Avenue. Both Friday and Saturday will be packed with activities, and the reunion will wrap up on Sunday with a worship service at Holmes Chapel.
Registration will continue from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Ethel Hawkins Center, followed by an all-class picnic from 2-5 p.m. at the Sadie T. Johnson Community Center in Jordan Park.
From 5-7 p.m. on Friday, there will be a time for individual classes to get together and participate in class activities before a dance at the Sadie Johnson Center wraps up the night.
Saturday, the entire community is invited to watch the highlight of the weekend—a downtown parade around the city square—beginning at 10 a.m. Then, it’s down to work as the alumni business meeting will be conducted from 1-2 p.m. at the Sadie Johnson Center.
A banquet caps off Saturday’s festivities after more individual class fellowship and activity time is set for 3-6 p.m. The banquet will begin at 7 p.m. and be held in the gymnasium at the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Children’s Home on Old Warren Road.
For those alumni who remain in town, the reunion will conclude with a worship service at 1 p.m. Sunday at Holmes Chapel, with a performance by the Drew High School Alumni mass choir.
This year’s reunion is hosted by the class of 1966, as it is the 50th anniversary for that class. For more information, contact Sarah Smith at 870-723-2407.
