Holmes Chapel host special mayoral candidate election debate
With mere weeks to go before the city of Monticello transitions into a new era of leadership, four of the five mayoral candidates vying for the title of Interim Mayor met Thursday night at Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church in Monticello to spar over the role of the mayor's office, economic development, the city budget, public participation and public safety.
Monticello Assistant to the Mayor Zack Tucker (D) confronted three of his opponents—former Monticello Mayor Joe Rogers (I), Sonny Thornhill (I), a 17-year armed forces veteran and former city councilman, and Jo Ann Trotter (I), a DHS employee for the state of Arkansas.
The debate was made possible through a partnership with Concerned Citizens of Monticello and the Arkansas Public Policy Panel.
