City Hall water main break
Monticello City Hall employees arrived at work this morning to find a flood and a mess on North Church Street by the entrance to the Mayor's office.
At approximately, 7:30 a.m. a water main break occured and began flooding the side lawn of City Hall, North Church Street, flowing down West Gaines in front of City Hall and wrapping around onto North Chester Street.
Monticello Public Works quickly jumped in to action, postponing the removal of holiday decorations in order to focus all man power on getting the break fixed and the road servicable again.
Right now, it is suspected that water pressure, ground shifting or a combination cased the break.
The water main, along with the road, should be fixed by 4:30 this afternoon, according to Charlie Hammock, Monticello Public Works Superintendent.
