Cotton farmers to learn about soil biology during February meeting

Cotton producers are invited to participate in the joint Healthy Soils for Sustainable Cotton winter meeting and Arkansas Soil Health Alliance Annual Meeting, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., February 25, at Hoots BBQ, 2008 US-65, McGehee. A farmer panel, lunch speaker and on-farm tour will help cotton growers evaluate and improve the impact of strong soil health management systems.

The information-packed meeting will include:

How to improve nutrient and water management with cover crops;
How to apply for soil health funding from the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS);
Soil Health management tips from Arkansas cotton growers, including Sam Whitaker, Steve Stevens and Robby Bevis;
Stevens/Kirkpatrick Farm Tour with discussions of equipment and soil sampling for soil health.
Although the meeting will focus primarily on cotton, all farmers interested in improving soil health are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Farmers are asked to register for the event by calling Ms. Debbie Moreland at 1-501-425-2891.

“Healthy Soils for Sustainable Cotton” is supported through the generosity of the Wrangler® brand, the VF Corporation Foundation, and the Walmart Foundation. The integrated Healthy Soils for Sustainable Cotton and Arkansas Soil Health Alliance Annual Meeting has been created by the Arkansas Soil Health Alliance.
