Lassiter decides against running for election

Dear Citizens of Monticello:
It has been my privilege to serve as your Alderman for Ward 4 position 2 for the past year.  I have filled an interim term for an Alderman who moved away from Monticello.  I want to thank my fellow citizens for supporting me and my family, and supporting the  University of Arkansas at Monticello while I worked there.  I am glad to have had the chance to serve on the City Council to try to give something back to our community which has been my home for over thirty years.
I have decided against running for election to another term on the City Council.  I want to urge my fellow citizens in Ward 4 to give serious consideration to running for a term on the council.  It is a great way to see how city government works and a great way to serve your community.  Your fellow citizens need someone to step up to help guide Monticello on its path as a progressive small city and a bright spot in our region of the state.
Your city needs YOU!
Jack Lassiter

Editor’s note: With Lassiter choosing not to run for the seat, Ward 4 position 2, which was originally vacated by Jonathan Schell, will be up for grabs in November. If you would like to run for the position, filing for the election begins Wednesday, July 29, at noon and ends Wednesday, August 5, at noon.
