Two Dermott residents are behind bars and facing charges after the shooting death of a 49-year-old man last week.
According to Arkansas State Police, 27-year-old Mario Milton has been charged with first degree murder, terroristic threatening and first degree battery. Alicia King, 24, is charged with hindering apprehension/prosecution.
Arkansas State Police said Dermott Police were called to 925 Skipper Bridge Road around 12:22 a.m. Friday morning. Just 45 minutes earlier, officers had been dispatched to the scene to quell a disturbance that had arisen out of an argument involving 49-year-old Johnny Hayes and another person.
State Police said that when officers arrived at the home a second time, 64-year-old Carolyn Hayes was seen walking in the front yard with injuries. Her son, 49-year-old Johnny Hayes, was laying in the yard, shot and unresponsive. He was later declared dead at a local hospital.
State Police said on Saturday that Milton and King had been arrested in connection to the incident. As of yesterday, both were being held in Drew County pending their next court appearance. Milton is being held on a $300,000 bond and King’s was set at $25,000.
Johnny Hayes’ body was transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy. The investigation is being handled jointly by the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Dermott Police Department, Drew County Sheriff’s Department, and Chicot County Sheriff’s Department.
