Hazel Willowdene Ferrell
Hazel Willowdene Ferrell, 94, of Monticello, formerly of Warren, peacefully passed into Heaven Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Belle View Estates Rehabilitation and Care Center in Monticello. She was born April 24, 1925 in Winchester, and was a daughter of Elbert Carl Dorman Sr. and Susan Ophelia Roberts.
Hazel was a proud mother and homemaker. She was a great cook, gardener, homemaker and friend who worked tirelessly for her family, church and the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Warren until she moved to Monticello, where she became a member of Pauline Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapters Nos. 3 and 374.
Married for 68 years, her husband, John Clifferd “Big John” Ferrell, preceded her in death on June 2, 2009. Also preceding her in death was a son, John Carl Ferrell; a brother, Elbert Carl Dorman Jr.; a sister, Benegene Rudiger; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors are two sons, Tommy (Diane) Ferrell of Monticello and Cliff (Sandra) Ferrell of Hot Springs; a daughter, Julia Ferrell (Randy) Harris of Barry, Texas; a sister, Carlene Sanders, aged 102, of Wasilla, Alaska; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, July 21, at Frazer’s Chapel with Bros. Larry Clements and Shiloh Gober officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Sampy Jones, Shiloh Gober, Wayne Ferrell, Jason Carter, Ray Ferguson, Keith Outlaw and Caleb Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Tony Fetters and Shannon Fletcher.
Memorials are preferred to the First Baptist Church in Warren, Pauline Baptist Church in Monticello or the Order of the Eastern Star.
