Jenny L. James Smith
Jenny L. James Smith, 88, of Monticello, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 at her home. She was born August 27, 1931 in El Dorado to the late Henry L. James and Lola Hammon James.
She was a retired school teacher having taught business math, general record keeping and typing at Monticello High School and was of the Methodist faith. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1949 as Salutatorian and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas A&M College (now UAM) graduating Magna Cum Laude. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Retired Master Sargent John H. James.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Coy Smith of Monticello; two sons, Dr. Kirby (Charlotte "Charlie") Smith of Sherwood and Dane (Deana) Smith of Monticello; two daughters, Kay Smith Qualls of Monticello and Sabrina Smith (Rex) Davis of Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jada, Blake, Ashley, Aaron, Kendall, Holden, Hanna and Luke; and nine great-grandchildren, Race, Bristol, Katherine Grace, Kaiden, Brayleigh, Aurora, Aubrey, Elijah and Jaxen.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello with Rev. Mike Qualls officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
