Larry K. Meeks
Larry K. Meeks, 75, of Longview (Ashley County) died Thursday, July 18, 2019, at his residence. Mr. Meeks was a native of the Milo community outside of Hamburg and a resident of Longview since 1992. He graduated in 1962 from Fountain Hill High School and went to the Arkansas A&M College (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello), for two years. He was a pre-law major when he joined the United States Navy.
After having served during the Vietnam Era in the Navy, he went back to college and graduated in 1974 with a degree in accounting. Mr. Meeks worked for the State Division of Legislative Auditing, retired after 33 years of service, and operated a private Certified Public Accountant practice from his home. He was a Mason, a member of the Hamburg Prairie Lodge No. 465 and a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Macel Campbell Meeks; a grandchild, Macey Meeks; and a brother-in-law, John Gary Crain.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Chris Meeks of Longview; a son, Kenny Meeks of Victoria, Texas; two daughters, Kim (Greg) Burnside of Hamburg and Neci Meeks (George) Brann of Mexico; two stepsons, Michael Leung of Little Rock and Philip Leung of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Ashley Choate of El Dorado; three brothers, Eddie (Helen) Meeks of Crossett, Dickie (Shirley) Meeks of Hamburg and Joe Allen (Cindy) Meeks of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Sheliah Crain and Terrie Tadlock, both of Hamburg; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Sunday, July 21, 2019, at the Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Boseman and Bro. Wes Miller officiating. Burial followed in the Egypt Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clint Book, Hardy Sawyer, Danny Rainey, Freddie Hatfield, Richard Blackwell and Jason Hill. Honorary pallbearers were David Evans, Terry Williams, Bruce Stafford, Charles Robinson, Jerry Spratt and the Employees of the State Division of Legislative Auditing, Monticello Office.
Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 310 Ashley County Road 95, Hamburg 71646. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
