Billies’ win streak ends
The Monticello Billies undefeated streak has come to an end with two consecutive conference losses this past week.
Hosting Magnolia on Tuesday, January 12, the Panthers were able to jump out to a 15-9 lead in the first quarter. The Billies only scoring in the quarter came from Ked Anderson who scored all nine of Monticello’s points in the quarter.
Monticello was able to increase their scoring output in the second quarter behind Nick Smith’s five points as the Billies went on to score 15 total second quarter points but were still outpaced by Magnolia who score 21 to take a 36-24 lead at the half.
Monticello played Magnolia closer in the third quarter with the Panthers taking the quarter 17-15. Magnolia was able to take the fourth and final quarter 17-11 to hand the Billies their first loss of the season, 70-50.
Leading the way for Monticello was KJ Burks with 15 points followed by Ked Anderson and Nick Smith with 13. Quay Rhodes scored five, Amari Shaw with three, and rounding out the scoring was Keith Wells Jr with one point.
The Billies lost their second conference game of the week o Friday, January 15, with a 67-47 loss on the road to Camden Fairview.
With the consecutive losses, Monticello falls to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the 8-4A. The Billies will return to action on Friday, January 22, hosting the Warren Lumberjacks with a 6pm tip scheduled.
As of now the Lady Billies are scheduled to take the court first on Friday.
