Drew Central Pirates Boys Basketball updates
The Drew Central Pirates were able to start the week with a conference road win over the Rison Wildcats on Tuesday, January 5, but dropped their first conference game against the Dumas Bobcats on Friday, January 8.
At Rison, the Pirates were able to get a jump on the Wildcats 13-9 in the first quarter and held a 27-23 lead at the half after Rison played the Pirates even in the second quarter 14-14.
Drew Central’s defense was able to hold Rison to four points in the third quarter as the Pirates offense scored 23 to give Drew Central a 50-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Drew Central continued to outpace Rison in the fourth, taking the quarter 17-9 for a 66-36 victory.
Leading the way for Drew Central was Jaden Golden with 15 points followed by Christian Shaw with 13. Tristian Butler added 12, Grealin Thomas Jr with six, and Kade Bodiford with four. Tralon Miller, Ian Strickland, Will Watson, Hunter Goad, and KJ Smith each scored three with Nick Bailey rounding out the scoring with two points.
Returning home to face Dumas, the Pirates and Bobcats played an even first quarter with each team scoring eight points. Drew Central end the half with a three-point lead, outscoring Dumas 12-9 in the quarter for a 20-17 advantage.
Dumas came back in the third quarter to overtake the Pirates, outscoring Drew Central 19-13 to gain a 36-33 advantage heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Dumas was able to put some separation between themselves and the Pirates, outscoring Drew Central 16-6 in the final quarter to take a 52-39 victory.
For Drew Central, Tristian Butler led the way with 22 points followed by Hunter Goad with five points. Kade Bodiford added four with Tralon Miller, Jaden Golden, Grealin Thomas Jr, and KJ Smith each adding two points.
With the loss, Drew Central moves to 3-1 in conference play.
