Kyle Tolen earns win 100 as Weevils finish week 2-1
The University of Arkansas at Monticello Bolls Weevils finished the week 2-1 giving head coach Kyle Tolin win number 100 as the head Weevil.
UAM’s first game of the week did not go as planned as the Weevils fell behind in the first half to Harding and could not overcome the Bisons as Harding took a 79-69 victory.
In the contest, Miles Daniels led the Weevils with 19 points with Lemmie Howard adding 11, and Kendal Frey with 10. DaJuan Jones and Denzel McDuffey each scored nine points, Alvarez Powell with five, Blakely Cobb scored four, and Max Ryan scored two.
The Weevils returned to Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 6 hosting Arkansas Tech.
Tech held the lead for the majority of the first half of play with UAM taking the lead for the remainder of the half with 5:14 remaining to take a 32-29 advantage at the half.
Each team exchanged the lead for the first half of the second half before UAM took the lead for the final time with 10:26 remaining in the game. The Weevils outscored Tech 35-33 in the half to secure the 67-62 win.
UAM had four players in double digits with DeJuan Jones leading the way with 18 points. Alvarez Powell scored 16, Max Warren with 11, and Denzel McDuffey with 10. Lemmie Howard added four, Kendal Frey and Miles Daniels with three each, and Kyler Haynes with two.
With the win over Arkansas Tech, head coach Kyle Tolin earns his 100TH win as the Weevils head coach.
UAM returned to action on the road at Southern Arkansas on Monday, February 8 to face the Muleriders.
UAM fell behind in the first half of as SAU took a 33-31 lead at the half. SAU continued to lead UAM until the Weevils took over the lead for the final time with 4:09 remaining in the contest. The Weevils biggest lead of the half came with 12 seconds at 11 points before closing out the contest with a 78-69 victory.
Leading the way for the Weevils was DaJuan Jones with 22 followed by Denzel McDuffey with 15. Lemmie Howard added 12, Miles Daniels with eight, Keyon Craddock with six, and Kendal Frey with five. Max Warren added four with Alvarez Powell and Kyler Haynes with three.
With he wins, UAM now has an overall record of 9-3 and a GAC record of 8-3 and still leads the Eastern Division with SAU sitting in second place.
The Weevils will return to action on Thursday, February 11 at Henderson State and will return to Steelman Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 13 to face Ouachita Baptist.
