Lady Pirates get road win
The Drew Central Lady Pirates got off to a good start on the road at Rison with a 56-22 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
Drew Central was able to establish a double-digit lead in the first quarter, outscoring Rison 17-5. The Lady Pirates’ defense held Rison to under 10 points again in the second quarter, taking the quarter 22-8 for a 39-13 halftime lead.
The Lady Pirates outscored Rison 17-5 in the third quarter with Rison outscoring Drew Central 4-0 in the fourth with the Lady Pirates taking the victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Pirates was Ali Jo Cruce with 13 points followed by Jakayla Page with nine. Layna Charbol and Gracie Connard each scored eight with Hannah Meeks and Jaila Bunn scoring seven. Kaiya Williams and Saniya Durden rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Returning home to face Dumas, the Lady Pirates scoring did not carry over from the previous contest as Dumas outscored the Lady Pirates 20-9 in the first quarter and 10-4 in the second to take a 30-13 lead at the half. Drew Central played Dumas even in the third quarter, 13-13, and was able to outscore Dumas in the fourth 20-17 but it was not enough to overcome their first half deficit, falling to the Lady Bobcats 60-46.
For Drew Central, Jakayla Page led the way with 10 points, Gracie Connard scored nine, and Layna Charbol with seven. Ali Jo Cruce scored six, Edriana Hunter with three, and Kaiya Williams with two. Saniya Durden rounded out the scoring with one point.
Drew Central is scheduled to return to the hardwood on Friday, January 15 at home against Lakeside with a 5p.m. tip.
