Lady Pirates lose third conference matchup
The Drew Central Lady Pirates struggles continued this week as they dropped two conference games against McGehee and Lakeside.
First against McGehee on Tuesday, January 12, the lady Pirates traveled to McGehee to face the Lady Owls.
McGehee got out in front of the Lady Pirates in the first quarter, 15-7. McGehee was able to outscore Drew Central in the second quarter 18-14 to take a 33-21 lead at the half. The Lady Owls continued to control the scoreboard in the third and fourth quarters, taking the quarters 18-9 and 17-13 to secure a 68-43 victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Pirates was Gracie Connard with 11 points followed by Hannah Meeks with seven. Kaiya Williams and Jakayla Page each scored five, Ali Jo Cruce with four, and Jaila Bunn with three. Zoe Johnson, Edriana Hunter, Meritza Spencer, and Layna Chrabol rounded out the scoring with two points each.
Returning home for the second conference game of the week on Friday, January 15, hosting Lakeside, the Lady Beavers opened the contest on a 15-0 run before Layna Chrabol broke Drew Central’s scoring drought at the 3:14 mark of the first quarter. Lakeside would go on to outscore the Lady Pirates 23-9 in the quarter.
Drew Central would outscore Lakeside in the second quarter 14-8, but Lakeside held a 31-23 lead at the half. In the second half, Lakeside continued to outpace the Lady Pirates in the second half, outscoring Drew Central 8-6 in the third quarter and 12-7 in the fourth quarter to take a 51-36 victory.
Leading the way for Drew Central was Hannah Meeks with nine points followed by Ali Jo Cruce with eight Jakayla Page and Gracie Connard each scored five, Layna Chrabol scored four, and Kaiya Williams and Jaila Bunn scoring two. Edriana Hunter rounded out the scoring with one point.
The Lady Pirates overall record falls to 5-7 with a conference record of 2-4 after three straight conference loses. The Lady Pirates will return to action on Friday, January 22 traveling to Smackover to face the Lady Buckaroos.
