Lady Pirates lose three straight against Dumas, McGehee and Smackover
The Drew Central Lady Pirates have lost three consecutive games heading into the final week of play in the regular season before district play begins at Dumas on February 13.
Traveling to Dumas on Tuesday, February 2, the Lady Pirates got out to a 12-10 lead after the first quarter, but Dumas would take the lead in the second quarter on their way to a 12-8 quarter to take a 22-18 lead at the half.
Dumas continued to hold their lead after the third quarter with Drew Central being able to keep the game in striking distance. Dumas outscored Drew Central 14-11 in the quarter to hold a 36-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Dumas was able to take over the contest, outscoring the Lady Pirates 22-7 in the quarter to take a 58-38 win.
Hannah Meeks led the Lady Pirates in scoring with 14 points followed by Ali Jo Cruce with 10. Gracie Connard and Jakayla Page each scored six with Kaiya Williams rounding out the scoring with two points
The Lady Pirates returned home for their final regular season home game on Friday, February 5 hosting the McGehee Lady Owls
After an even first quarter that saw both teams scoring 11 points, McGehee took over the contest in the second quarter, outscoring Drew Central 16-7 in the quarter to take a 27-18 advantage at the half. McGehee was able to remain ahead of the Lady Pirates in the third quarter by outscoring Drew Central 18-14 and closed out the contest with a 19-11 advantage in the fourth quarter for a 64-43 victory.
Jakayla Page led the Lady Pirates with 11 points followed by Ali Jo Cruce with 10. Gracie Connard and Hannah Meeks scored eight. Layna Chrabol, Edriana Hunter, and Jalia Bunn each scored two points.
The Lady Pirates travelled to Smackover to face the Lady Buckaroos on Saturday, February 6 in a makeup contest that was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols earlier in the season.
Drew Central got out to a 9-5 lead in the first quarter with Smackover besting Drew Central 9-7 in the second quarter with the Lady Pirates holding a 16-14 lead at the half.
Smackover held the Lady Pirates scoreless in the third quarter 6-0 to hold a 22-14 lead heading in the final quarter.
In the fourth, each team had their best scoring outputs of the contest with Smackover outscoring Drew Central 16-12 in the quarter to take the 36-18 victory, handing the Lady Pirates their third consecutive conference loss.
Hannah Meeks scored nine points, Ali Jo Cruce with six, and Gracie Connard with five. Jakayala Page added four with Layna Chrabol and Jaila Bunn scoring two.
With the losses, the Lady Pirates record falls to 6-11 overall with a conference record of 3-7 heading into he final week of play before entering the district tournament to be held at Dumas beginning on Saturday, Feb. 13.
