Monticello Billies fall at Magnolia; defeat Hamburg at home
The Monticello Billies traveled to Magnolia on Friday, February 5 to face the conference leading Panthers in an 80-30 loss.
Magnolia outscored Monticello in the first quarter 24-9 and 19-12 in the second to take a 43-21 lead at the half. The Billies came back to play the Panthers even in the third 15-15 but Magnolia came back in the fourth to outscore Monticello 23-14 in the final quarter to take the 80-50 win.
Ked Anderson led the way for Monticello with 17 points followed by Nick Smith with 14. Quay Rhodes added six, KJ Wells with five, and Brooks Bowman with four. Jontavion Lambert and KJ Burks rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
Monticello returned home on Tuesday, February 9, hosting Hamburg.
Monticello outscored Hamburg by a single point in the first quarter 7-6, and both teams played even in the second 10-10 with Monticello holding a 17-16 lead at the half.
The Billies extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Hamburg 12-6 in the quarter to hold a 29-22 lead heading into the final quarter.
Monticello’s defense held Hamburg to eight points in the fourth quarter while putting up their best scoring quarter of the game with 18 points to close out the Lions 47-28.
Nick Smith led the Billies with 19 points followed by Ked Anderson with 14. KJ Wells added seven, Quay Rhodes with six, and Nichalon Smith with one.
The Billies will return to action on Friday, February 12 hosting Camden Fairview in the final game of the regular season. Game times are scheduled to begin at 6pm with the Lady Billies taking the court first. The seniors will also be honored to celebrate Senior Night for the Billies, Lady Billies, and the Monticello Cheerleaders
The District Tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 13 with game times and locations to be determined after Friday nights contests.
