Pirates fall to McGehee; defeat Lakeside 56-53
The Drew Central Pirates traveled to McGehee on Tuesday, January 12 but could not overcome a 10-point deficit at the half as the Owls went on to hand the Pirates their second straight loss 50-43.
The Owls were able to gain a two-point advantage after the first quarter, outscoring the Pirates 12-10, McGehee was able to increase their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Drew Central 18-10 to take a 30-20 lead at the half.
The Pirates came back to play McGehee even in the third quarter 12-12 and outscored the Owls 11-8 in the fourth but it was not enough to overtake McGehee from taking a 50-43 victory.
Leading the way for Drew Central was Jaden Golden with 14 points followed by Kade Bodiford with 11. Tristian Butler scored eight, Christian Shaw with six, and Nick Bailey and Grealin Thomas Jr. rounding out the scoring with two.
The Pirates returned home on Friday, January 15 to host the Lakeside Beavers. Lakeside started the first quarter with a 5-0 run going on to outscore the Pirates 15-10 in the quarter. The Pirates were able to tie the contest and then take the lead late in the second quarter. Lakeside came back to tie the contest at 25 as the quarter came to an end.
Lakeside went on a 7-0 run in the third quarter before Drew Central would come back on a 4-0 run. Drew Central would go on to take the third quarter 12-11 to take a one-point, 37-36, lead to start the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Drew central was able to hold off the Beaver comeback attempt, scoring their final two-points with seven seconds remaining in the contest to take the quarter 19-17 securing a three-point, 56-53, victory.
Kade Bodiford led the way for the Pirates with 13 points followed by Tristian Butler with 11 points. Chris Shaw scored eight with Nick Bailey and KJ Smith scoring seven. Jaden Golden added six and Grealin Thomas Jr. rounded out the scoring with four.
The Pirates now sport an overall record of 6-2 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark.
The Pirates return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 on the road at Smackover with game times beginning at 5 p.m. with the junior boys scheduled to take the court first.
