POISED FOR REPEAT
Had last weekend’s Pine Bluff Sharks Invitational been just another regular-season meet, the Monticello Marlins’ results would have been impressive. Knowing that it was the last tune-up before the South Arkansas Swim Association Championships, though, made those times and places all the more outstanding.
Monticello completed the pre-SASA Championships part of its schedule in a flurry, scoring 1,067.5 points and literally swimming away from the competition in the 15-team meet at the brand new Pine Bluff Aquatics Center. The reigning summer-only champion Marlins head into Friday’s and Saturday’s SASA Champ meet at the Donald W. Reynolds YMCA pool in Warren with five wins under their belts already—and stand poised to repeat their summer-only SASA crown of 2018. In the two meets where the Marlins didn’t bring home a meet title, Monticello was a close second to El Dorado HealthWorks’ Fitness year-round squad, and the 2019 bunch just might overtake its rivals for the overall SASA title
